My mother tongue has no alphabet. Instead, each one paints a picture. And sometimes, that picture speaks to all of us. On Feb 14th, I share the 14 ways I wrote “heart” in traditional Chinese calligraphy—14 ways I choose to keep loving the world.
To keep my mission unspoiled, unshaken, and unstained by time.
To do right by my patients like I would by my loved ones.
To listen with my heart not to always have an answer, but to truly understand.
To regard patients as my teachers and not be ashamed to say “I don’t know.”
To acknowledge and forgive my mistakes as my patients have done for me.
To study the textbooks but learn from the patients.
